How it works

How HipTrip builds a trip

Most planners hand you the average of the internet. HipTrip follows the same steps every time: start from places people with taste have vetted, score them, build each day in order, and check the result against real map data before you see it.

  1. Listen

We start with you, not a template

    1. 1

You tell us about the trip

A short chat, one question at a time. No long form, and nothing is generated until you approve the plan.

      • Where, how many days, and the style: hiking, biking, beach, culture, cafes or bars
      • How challenging you want it, your dates, and who is coming, kids' ages included
      • A home airport once you have dates, so we can look at flights
  2. Curate

We begin with places that have been vetted

    1. 2

      We gather vetted places

For your destination we pull the places our editors have curated and scored. If we don't know it well yet, we research it live first.

      • Places an editor rated poorly are left out
      • New destinations are searched, then photos and reviews are read before anything is scored
    2. 3

      Every place gets a HipScore

A HipScore asks whether a place is worth your time, not whether it is popular. Tourist traps score low whatever their star rating.

      • Six qualities: vibe, authenticity, uniqueness, scene, visual and value
      • Scored by editors by hand, and by AI from photos and what people really say
      • Places roll up into scored neighborhoods too
  3. Build

We build it in the right order

    1. 4

We shape the whole trip first

Before any day is filled in, we sketch the full trip: an overview and one specific base location for each day. That keeps days from repeating or zig-zagging.

      • Also drafted up front: packing list, best time to go, rough budget, tips
    2. 5

Then we build each day, one at a time

The best-scoring places near each day's location anchor it. Each day gets a meal, a place to stay and a mix of experiences, and nothing repeats.

      • Every named place is looked up on the map, and replaced if it can't be found
      • Long drives, flights and transit legs become their own transfers, with travel time and directions
  4. Check

    Then we check the work

    1. 6

A review pass before you see it

Each day is checked for a meal, a place to sleep, variety and a realistic pace, and for places we filter out. If something fails, the day is revised.

    2. 7

      Then the extras

With a home airport and dates we add the cheapest round-trip fare we can find, as a price snapshot for planning. Nothing is booked.

      • A packing list and cover image come with every trip
  5. Make it yours

It's a starting point you can shape

    1. 8

Preview it free, unlock when you're ready

Generating is free and you see a preview first. Unlocking uses one credit and opens every day, with maps and place details.

    2. 9

Edit, share and split the costs

Ask the assistant to swap a place or rework a day. It proposes, you confirm. Then share the trip, split expenses and mark places loved or skipped afterwards.

A few minutes, not a few seconds

Each day is researched and checked rather than generated in one pass, so a trip takes a few minutes to build. Places and fares change, so confirm hours and prices before you go.
